My name is Jody.
I live in a small town just outside Ottawa, with my hubby, 3 kids and our dog. I am an ACE (America Council Exercise) certified personal trainer. I recently got certified as a Coaching Behavior Change Coach, a specialist program through ACE.
I am the owner of Kick It Up Fitness. I have been a trainer for 20 years. I started my own boot camp in September 2010 and created Kick It Up Fitness when my 3rd baby was 4 months old. I specialize in training women.
I love making exercise fun and part of people's lives. I coach women to look and feel their best.
Parts of me are very introverted. I like time at home and our family cottage with no internet or cell service. I find it hard to talk about me. However can train many women in a group (so a form of public speaking) and not think twice about it. So I guess, I am kinda extroverted too.
I love outdoors. Summer is my favorite season, but I like all 4 living in Ottawa.
I Iove snowboarding, run, waterskii (fun fact, I learned to slalom 2 years ago...so old dogs can learn new tricks).
I had a wise aunt repeat "put your family first" and I try to listen to her daily. I believe in balance and moderation in life.
Recently I catch myself saying "it is what it is" a lot.
I collect stones.
I love meeting new people and sharing my gift of getting people to exercise and eating clean.
I love coffee, wine and most things fine.
I always strive to make myself better. I am a glass half full kinda thinker.
Thanks for hearing about me.

Hi, I’m Kathleen. I’m an ACE (American Council of Exercise) certified personal trainer and here’s a little bit about me.
I’ve been enjoying exercise since I was 11 years old. I’m 41 now so that’s three decades of training and playing.
What happened in those 30 years?
As a little kid I was sick with asthma. Doctors told me to exercise my lungs - good advice that I took. I started playing all the sports in school and loved to run, bike, and ski on my own. Anything cardio, anything with a ball, anything fast. I love to play.
I also developed scoliosis and in my 20s struggled with muscular imbalances and joint pain. Strength and balance workouts helped to eliminate the chronic pain. I became a pretty strong and happy mom of 3, able to play with them and lead them in a healthy active lifestyle.
I should also mention I’m an engineer. Keeping good posture with a daytime desk job is not enough; I make sure to consistently work at reversing the effects of sitting too much in my workouts.
And now that I’m in my 40s, my range of motion needs work to combat the normal effects of aging. My body recently needed surgery. I’m allergic to just about everything on the planet and I still have asthma. So I change how I train to meet my needs, and I want to share that with others.
Oh and I have chronic depression. I know I’m not alone here. My family history is proof of that. Carefully managed with medication and with doctors, I’m in a good place. But you know what else helps me with this? Keeping a healthy body that I’m confident in. Getting those post-workout endorphins flowing. And feeling empowered by the people I train with.
In short, whatever life throws at me, I use exercise and an active lifestyle as tools to help me live life large.
The fitness community is a great space to give and find support for all the various mental and physical challenges we face. Jody has invited me to join her community at Kick It Up Fitness to support with her existing classes and to offer a specialized course focusing on mobility. I’m excited to step up. See you online!
